To ensure that public swimming pools are constructed and operated in a safe and sanitary manner.
The emergency regulations have now been codified as final regulation, effective August 7, 2022. For a summary of the changes to the plan and specification review process, please read this letter to aquatic venue applicants and licensees on June 6, 2022.
What we do
- Review construction plans, license approved pools, inspect operating pool facilities for water quality, sanitation and safety. All project plans submitted for review will be tracked on this webpage.
- Collect and analyze pool water quality samples for bacteria, chlorine, pH, and temperature.
- Connect the public with resources to verify an aquatic venue license or to see if an aquatic venue has received a violation.
- Guide applicants in the use of the appropriate aquatic venue applications per RI Regulations, Licensing Aquatic Venues 216-RICR-50-05-4:
- Applicants seeking to build a new aquatic venue must use the New Venue form series.
- Applicants seeking to modify the recirculation or treatment system of an existing aquatic venue or seeking to modify an existing aquatic venue, where the costs will exceed 10 percent of the cost to construct a new venue, must use the Substantial Modification form series.

- Applicants seeking to modify an existing aquatic venue (excluding recirculation or treatment system modifications), where the costs represent 10 percent or less than the cost to build a new venue, must use the Non-Substantial Modification form series.
