Health and Social Service Referrals

A key part of the WIC program is its referral system, which connects participants with health and community services beyond their local WIC office. Whether it's during an in-person appointment or over the phone, participants are encouraged to reach out to WIC staff whenever additional support is needed. Staff will make every effort to connect participants with local and regional services based on individual needs.

Examples of referrals include, but are not limited to:

  • Healthcare: Prenatal care, pediatric care, primary care, and dental care providers.
  • Nutrition and breastfeeding support: Nutrition and lactation professionals.
  • Social and community services: Assistance with housing, childcare, transportation, employment, education, or finances.
  • Behavioral health: Therapy and behavioral health providers.
  • Alcohol and other substance use: Treatment and support programs.
  • Additional public assistance programs: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid.

To receive the most current information about available referrals and resources, contact your local WIC office or speak with WIC staff at your next appointment.
