The WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides eligible WIC participants with additional benefits to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from approved farmers, farmers markets, and farm stands. The goal of FMNP is to help families eat more fresh local food, and to support Rhode Island farmers at the same time.
The WIC FMNP typically runs from June through October. Benefits must be used by October 31. FMNP benefits are separate from your regular WIC benefits and cannot be used at grocery stores.
How Do I Get FMNP Benefits?
When the FMNP season begins, local WIC offices will issue FMNP benefits to eligible participants.
- Benefits are limited. Not everyone who qualifies is guaranteed to receive them.
- Contact your local WIC office to find out when and how benefits are distributed.
Where Can I Use My Benefits?
FMNP benefits can be used at authorized farmers, farmers markets, and farm stands. Look for signs that say "We Accept WIC Farmers Market Benefits" or use the FMNP Participant Guide (Spanish) to find authorized FMNP vendors throughout Rhode Island. The participant guide is updated every year before the FMNP season begins, so be sure to check the newest version.
To help increase access to healthy local produce for families across Rhode Island, local WIC clinics may host pop-up markets. Some WIC clinics might also host events at approved farmers markets. These free, family-friendly events let you:
- Try new fruits and vegetables
- Learn easy ways to prepare local produce
- Get help from WIC staff while you shop
Contact your local WIC office to find out about any upcoming events near you.
What Can I Buy?
FMNP benefits can be used to buy eligible, fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Get More Fresh Food with SNAP Bonus Bucks
Do you receive SNAP benefits in Rhode Island? You may be able to double your spending power at participating farmers markets through the Bonus Bucks program. For every SNAP dollar you spend, you can receive an additional dollar in Bonus Bucks to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.

Authorization must be renewed every two years to stay active in the WIC FMNP program. Once you're authorized, display the “We Accept WIC” poster at your market stand so WIC shoppers know they can use their benefits with you.
