AGS

AGS (Alpha-gal Syndrome) is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergic condition. AGS is also called alpha-gal allergy, red meat allergy, or tick bite meat allergy. AGS is not caused by an infection. AGS symptoms occur after people eat red meat or are exposed to other products containing alpha-gal.

Providers are required by state regulation to report positive tick-borne laboratory results, including rare and unusual conditions such as Alph-gal syndrome and Borellia miyamotoi. RIDOH follows up with providers as needed to obtain any additional clinical information and tracks reports over time to detect potential increases in disease and to identify opportunities for outreach.
