Vaccinate Before You Graduate (VBYG) Program

Mission

To ensure all Rhode Island students have a chance to be fully immunized against vaccine-preventable diseases before high school graduation.

History

The Vaccinate Before You Graduate (VBYG) Program was launched in 2001 to help students complete their Hepatitis B vaccination series in Grade 12. In 2010, the program expanded to include all high school students in Rhode Island and began offering all routine adolescent immunizations recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and listed below. In September 2015, the VBYG program expanded again to include all middle school students in Rhode Island.

What We Do

  • Offer convenient vaccinations, during school hours, for students at school-based clinics at no out-of-pocket cost to families.
  • Contract with The Wellness Company,  a large-scale State-Supplied Vaccine (SSV) provider and licensed wholesale vaccine distributor, to facilitate the VBYG Program. The Wellness Company is staffed by many experienced healthcare professionals and personnel who can be called into service quickly, if needed, to hold a vaccine clinic anywhere in Rhode Island.
  • Through The Wellness Company, coordinate with school administrators to sign up to host vaccine clinics for middle and high school students in their communities.
  • Offer ACIP-recommended vaccines to middle and high school students, which currently include:
