State of Rhode Island
Department of Health
Office of Immunization, August 2022
As Rhode Island works to get back on track with routine childhood and adolescent immunizations, VBYG has the resources to help keep your students healthy. On-time vaccination is essential because it helps provide immunity before students are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused families and individuals to miss their routine checkups and vaccinations. With children going back to school and adults going back to the workplace, it is more important than ever for everyone to get back on track with routine vaccination.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching disruption of routine immunization, including our Vaccinate Before You Graduate (VBYG) clinics. Timely vaccination is key to maintaining population immunity against vaccine-preventable diseases, ensuring our students are fully protected from other dangerous diseases by making sure they are up to date on their routine vaccines.
Despite continued difficulties in the 2021-22 school year, VBYG numbers are starting to return to pre-pandemic levels, showing that VBYG clinics continue to be a valuable resource to families.
