Rhode Island Child and Adult Immunization Registry (RICAIR)

RICAIR provides a lifelong immunization registry used for preventive care and control of vaccine preventable disease. RICAIR maintains all records of immunizations in one secure database, regardless of where the vaccine is administered.

Healthcare institutions and pharmacies receiving vaccine supplied by the State of Rhode Island are required to participate in RICAIR by electronic data reporting (or by actively working toward establishing electronic reporting).  Only healthcare professionals and authorized users have access to this confidential, secure database to help ensure that Rhode Islanders are protected against vaccine preventable diseases for coordination of care.

What you need to know

Individual patients do not need to take any action to be included in RICAIR.   RICAIR records can be generated by healthcare professionals when they are asked by patients to provide an immunization record for daycare, camps, schools and colleges, or employment.  Patients or their parents/legal guardians can change the access to their immunization records in RICAIR at any time.  Parental/guardian decisions are only valid until a child’s eighteenth birthday.  The following actions may be requested:

  • Block- Prevents immunization records from being seen by authorized RICAIR users, such as doctors and school nurses.
  • Unblock- Makes information viewable to authorized RICAIR users.
  • Delete- Removes immunization records.  Deleted immunization records cannot be restored and are not available for proof of vaccination.  Demographic (name, address, and contact) information is retained to prevent immunizations from being added in the future. It is also possible to delete all immunization and demographic information in the database; however, this does not prevent immunizations from being added in the future.
  • Restore- Restores ability to add information to immunization records in the future and allows access to authorized RICAIR users. Previously deleted immunization records cannot be restored and are not available for proof of vaccination.

To request one of the above actions, complete the on-line form at:  RICAIR REQUEST

Complete as much information as possible. Providing more information increases the accuracy of processing your request. You will receive a confirmation email when your form is submitted and another email when your request has been processed. Email RIDOH.RICAIR@health.ri.gov  or call 401-222-5960 for questions regarding RICAIR.
