WIC provides checks to qualifying clients to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at local WIC approved Farmers’ Markets. The Farmers' Market checks are valid for one season, from June 1 through October 31.
The WIC Program collaborates with Johnson & Wales University and local farmers to offer Veggin’ Out cooking demonstrations throughout the summer at some of Rhode Island's busiest Farmers' Markets. Veggin’ Out cooking demonstrations provide nutritional education using the foods offered at the Farmers' Market. Adults and children learn new ways to prepare the produce and have the oppotunity to taste new fruits and vegetables. Tasting fresh fruits and veggies in new recipes is a fun way to learn about Rhode Island's own produce. The Veggin’ Out program offers hands-on childrens' activities.
