Clinical Social Work (CSW) Licensure Requirement Changes effective June 2025
There have been amendments to the Rhode Island Social Work Statute, effective late June 2025. Pursuant to the amended Social Work Statute, passing the national exam administered by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) is not currently required for the Clinical Social Work (CSW) license and will not be required until at least August 15, 2030.
Social Work Compact
The Social Work Licensure Compact (SW Compact) allows eligible licensed Social Workers an alternative method for providing services in other member states. If you are interested in learning more about the SW Compact, please use the following link: https://swcompact.org/. While this legislation has passed in RI, the compact is not currently operational.
