Staci A. Fischer, MD, FACP, FIDSA is the current Acting Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health. With the hiring process for a more permanent Director of Health in its final stages, Dr. Fischer is temporarily managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the position.
Dr. Fischer also currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline, and she is the Medical Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Division of Healthcare Quality and Safety. She is board-certified in infectious diseases. She practiced in Rhode Island from 2000 to 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Fischer has vast experience in the fields of healthcare quality and safety and academic medicine, where she helped train the next generation of Rhode Island physicians. She oversaw the training of medical residents and fellows for Lifespan in a prior capacity as the Director of Graduate Medical Education, and she was the Director of the Infectious Disease Fellowship Program at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She also previously held positions with the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education.
