Mission

To protect and promote public health and prevent disease by assuring the safety and quality of the food supply.

What we do

  • Develop food safety regulations and policies
  • Certify food safety managers
  • Inspect, review plans, and license retail food establishments (restaurants, markets, schools, food trucks) and wholesale food facilities (manufacturers, processors, dairies, shellfish)
  • Provide 24-hour emergency coverage for fires, accidents, and natural disasters that involve food products
  • Investigate illness complaints and foodborne disease outbreaks
  • Deliver education and outreach opportunities to the Rhode Island food service community
