Mission
Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of all Rhode Islanders before, during, and after pregnancy by ensuring optimal access in health systems providing maternal care.
Vision
Our vision is for all Rhode Islanders of childbearing age to have access to medical care and social supports that maximize pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum health outcomes.
What we do
In late 2023, Rhode Island Department of Health’s Maternal and Child Health Program (MCH) was awarded the federal Maternal Health Innovation grant to
- Ensure insurance coverage and access for women and their families;
- Establish a maternal health task force;
- Develop a maternal health strategic plan;
- Enhance data and reporting capacity; and
- Establish a community-based perinatal workforce (ex. doulas, perinatal mental health certified professionals, midwives) workforce in Rhode Island (with partner Urban Perinatal Education Center).
- Address pressing issues impeding maternal health and wellness in alignment with Title V.
