Mission
To protect and promote public health and prevent disease by assuring the safety and quality of the food supply.
What we do
- Develop food safety regulations and policies
- Certify food safety managers
- Inspect, review plans, and license retail food establishments (restaurants, markets, schools, food trucks) and wholesale food facilities (manufacturers, processors, dairies, shellfish)
- Provide 24-hour emergency coverage for fires, accidents, and natural disasters that involve food products
- Investigate illness complaints and foodborne disease outbreaks
- Deliver education and outreach opportunities to the Rhode Island food service community
