The Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) allows eligible licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists an alternative method for providing services in other member states. While this legislation has passed in RI, the compact is not currently operational.
Important Note for Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Licensing
In accordance with RI Gen. Laws 5-48.2, Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) licensees must work under the direction and supervision of a RI licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who has been actively working in the field for twenty-four (24) months after completion of the postgraduate professional experience and who accepts the responsibility for the acts and performances of the SLPA.
Applicants for SLPA licensure must identify their RI licensed SLP supervisor on the application. It is the SLPA licensee’s responsibility to update RIDOH of any change in supervision (e.g. if you switch supervisors or your supervisor’s license expires) by emailing Elicense@health.ri.gov.
You will not be allowed to renew your SLPA license if your current supervisor does not have an active RI SLP license.
