RI Rental Registry
In accordance with Rhode Island General Law 34-18-58, all landlords are now required to register their rental properties with the Rhode Island Department of Health. This mandatory registry aims to ensure transparency, safety, and accountability in the rental market across the state.
Registering your rental property is not just a legal requirement - it's a step toward fostering safer and healthier living conditions for tenants. If your property was built before 1978 it is subject to lead hazard mitigation regulations, and you need a valid lead certificate.
Please note the following deadlines:
- Initial registration was due October 1, 2024.
- New property owners or landlords must register within 30 days of acquisition or leasing.
- Annual re-registration by October 1 to update or confirm existing information.
