Mission
To assure the safety of food supply by testing food products for microbiological and chemical contaminants.
What we do
- Test food products and ingredients implicated in investigations of foodborne illness
- Identify and quantify microbiological and chemical food contaminants following strict international quality standards.
- Test food collected during routine state surveillance of manufactured food products.
- Report food test results to the electronic repository (eLexnet) maintained by the FDA.
- Participate in the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), a network of qualified laboratories that respond to food contamination threats to the national food supplies.
Accomplishments
- Food testing and successful collaboration with the RIDOH Centers for Food Protection and Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology protects Rhode Island from food borne illness by collaborating successfully.
