Mission
To assure the safety of dairy products produced in Rhode Island by testing dairy products for microbiological contaminants, proper pasteurization and drug and antibiotic residues.
What we do
- Determine that dairy products are properly pasteurized when sold in-state or distributed to other states for consumption or further processing
- Microscopically examine milk samples to be sure they are produced from healthy cows (somatic cell count).
- Analyze dairy products for pasteurization, bacterial contamination, drug and antibiotic residues.
Accomplishments
- Certified by the FDA to analyze Rhode Island and other state dairy products for its Interstate Milk Shippers List Program.
- Performed 2,217 dairy tests in 2022 for bacteria concentration, somatic cell counts, drug and antibiotics, verify pasteurization, and temperature.
- Evaluates "in-house" milk testing done by dairies in Rhode Island.
