Occupational Health Monitoring
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) monitors health events that may be related to occupational exposures. We track exposures to certain metals and chemicals, as well as a few work-related medical conditions. This information is important for monitoring the health and safety of Rhode Island’s workers.
Additionally, reporting is the law; 216-RICR-30-05-1, Reporting and Testing of Infectious, Environmental, and Occupational Diseases, requires healthcare professionals attending a case or suspected case of occupational disease to report them to RIDOH.
Healthcare professionals are also required to report “any cluster of occupational disease.” A “cluster” is defined as two or more cases. If you have identified two or more cases of an occupational disease, please contact Robert.Sucsy@health.ri.gov with the number of cases, the outcome of the cases, and the location of the work site.
