Mission
To conduct an ongoing statewide healthcare utilization and capacity study reporting on healthcare services in the State.
What We Do
- Collect and report data on healthcare capacity, utilization, and access across Rhode Island in accordance with R.I. Gen. Laws § 23-93-5.
- Develop and distribute sector-specific surveys to healthcare entities using tools such as Qualtrics and REDCap.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across healthcare sectors to ensure surveys accurately reflect the sector.
- Conduct outreach to follow-up with healthcare entities to support timely and complete survey responses.
- Aggregate and analyze survey data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Create visualizations and reports on healthcare capacity, utilization, and access statewide.
- Produce a final report to inform healthcare planning and policy in Rhode Island.
Areas of Focus
Surveys distributed as part of the Statewide Health Inventory program collect and allow for the analysis of data to understand the availability and utilization of health care services in the following sectors, including but not limited to: primary care and outpatient specialty care, behavioral health care, home care, assisted living, nursing facilities, hospital care, physician ambulatory surgery centers, hospice care, adult day care, dialysis centers, imaging centers, oral health, pharmacy, emergency medical services, and patient and community.
Key Information
Rhode Island General Laws § 23-93-5 requires that RIDOH gather, at a minimum, the following information: the name, location, and type of facility; the hours of operation; the services provided (including but not limited to translation and transportation services); the total number of clients; demographic information of clients (including but not limited to race and ethnicity and the primary language spoken at home); treatments; patient visits; procedures or scans performed within a calendar year; the total number of uninsured individuals in the State served by each practitioner; and any other critical information deemed necessary by RIDOH.
