Emergency Medical Services for Children Program

To reduce child and youth mortality and morbidity sustained due to severe illness or trauma.

What we do

  • Ensure that state of the art emergency medical care for the ill and injured child or adolescent; pediatric service is well integrated into an emergency medical service system backed by optimal resources; and that entire spectrum of emergency services, including primary prevention of illness and injury, acute care, and rehabilitation, is provided to children and adolescents as well as adults, no matter where they live, attend school or travel.
  • Fund the Pediatric Education Series, offering continuing education to pre-hospital and hospital based emergency providers and school nurses.
  • Write guidelines to stabilize and manage pediatric emergency patients; transfer inter-hospital transfer, of severely ill or injured pediatric patients, and created a system to recognize hospital emergency department's ability to and care for critically ill and injured pediatric patients once they have been admitted through the emergency department.
  • Survey emergency departments to ensure that they have the essential guidelines and resources in place to provide effective emergency care to children.
