RIDOH Recommends Swimming Advisories at Beaches in Jamestown, Newport, and Tiverton

Wednesday, June 24, 2026

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends closing the swimming areas at several beaches in Rhode Island because of high bacteria counts.

Recommended swimming area closures:

  • Mackerel Cove Beach in Jamestown

  • Hazards Beach in Newport

  • Gooseberry Beach in Newport

  • Fogland Beach in Tiverton

  • Grinnell's Beach in Tiverton

RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day. The status of a beach may change as new data becomes available. The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line (40) 222-2751. A list of closed beaches can also be accessed at health.ri.gov/beaches.
