Protect Your Health After a Winter Storm
Prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a poisonous gas that can come from appliances like your car, portable generator, or gas stove. Clear snow away from your home’s exterior vents and away from your car’s exhaust pipe. Do not leave your car running in the garage. Use portable generators outside only.
Shovel safely. Stretch first, dress in several loose layers, and take breaks. Listen to your body. If you feel tired or feel tightness in your chest, stop shoveling. Learn more at health.ri.gov/winterstorm.
