Anchor Medical Associates has announced it is closing as of June 30, 2025. Current patients of Anchor Medical should immediately begin the search for a new primary care professional.

Anchor Medical has posted a list of practices that may be accepting new patients.: https://www.anchormedical.org/patient-resources

Your insurance company website is another good place to start when searching for a new healthcare professional.

Additionally, while RIDOH cannot provide referrals for patients, RIDOH is actively working with a number of medical professional organizations in the state to support patients and families searching for new primary care professionals. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Please note that any new provider will treat you as a new patient and will consult with you to determine appropriate care, including medications that may or may not be prescribed. It may be helpful for you to be aware of the specifics of the medications you are currently taking at these new patient visits.

Anchor Medical’s website has a patient medication list that you can print and fill out to bring with you to any new provider appointment.

If someone does not have a primary care professional, urgent care centers and community health centers can be good options. RIDOH has lists of urgent care centers and community health centers online: https://health.ri.gov/healthcare/find-urgent-care.

If someone is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to an emergency department.

Talk to your child’s Anchor Medical healthcare professional about immunizations that your child will need in the coming months. They will be able to provide you with guidance on locations for immunizations, should you not be able to find another primary care practice right away. (For example, CVS Minute Clinics do childhood immunizations for children who are 18 months and older.)

Contact your current Anchor Medical healthcare professional prior to June 30th to request refills on your existing prescriptions. Note that prescriptions for medications that are controlled substances (like some pain medications and medications for attention deficit disorder) may not be able to be sent to your pharmacy with refills. Be sure to discuss any questions about your medications with your Anchor Medical healthcare professional before the practice closes. Patients can ask Anchor Medical healthcare professionals to give them a one-year prescription for any maintenance medications they are taking.

Anchor Medical has a medical release form you can use to request your medical records. You should complete a separate release for each family member who is a patient of Anchor Medical.

While medical records will be available after the June 30, 2025 closure date, it is best to get them beforehand.
