Immunization, Office of

Mission

To protect the health of all Rhode Islanders by providing equitable access to safe and effective immunizations. We are committed to preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases through comprehensive education, outreach, and accessible vaccination services, ensuring the well-being of individuals and communities across the state. 

What we do

  • Coordinate various immunization programs throughout Rhode Island.
  • Improve and sustain vaccination coverage levels.
  • Track vaccine returns to stay under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention annual 5% allowance for waste.
  • Ensure that vaccine providers comply with Vaccines for Children (VFC) program requirements through performance site visits.
  • Maintain effective systems for vaccine quality assurance.
  • Provide community- and school-based vaccination programs.
  • Conduct quality improvement programs in collaboration with immunization providers.
  • Engage with community members and organizational partners to provide evidence-based outreach and health education about immunizations, vaccine safety, and disease prevention.  

Accomplishments

  • Achieved high overall immunization rates, including the #1 national ranking for HPV vaccine coverage.
