The Healthy Eating and Active Living program (HEAL) launched the Rhode Island Streets Transformation Project (RISTP) in 2023, showcasing community design that promotes physical activity and active transportation for Rhode Islanders. The RISTP awards funding to community-based organizations and municipalities to create temporary demonstration projects that enhance the built environment, encourage physical activity and active transportation, or develop community programs that promote physical activity. The goals for this initiative include the following:
- Build municipal support for safer, healthier streets;
- Expand outdoor green and public spaces;
- Expand transportation choices within communities.
