Physician Visa Waiver Program

To increase access to primary health and mental healthcare in rural and urban communities that have shortages.

What we do

  • Set local application requirements and preferences to meet the state's changing healthcare needs. (Applicants for the 2015 - 2016 pool must volunteer their professional services to serve the public interest at least 5 hours a month, work with us to help understand culturally and linguistically appropriate health services, and not have a "non-compete" close in their employment contract. We prefer to grant waivers to physicians how have done their residency in Rhode Island and those who practice primary care.)
  • Review and approve J-1 visa waiver applications to meet the state's changing healthcare needs.
