Physician Visa Waiver Program
To increase access to primary health and mental healthcare in rural and urban communities that have shortages.
What we do
Set local application requirements and preferences to meet the state's changing healthcare needs. (Applicants for the 2015 - 2016 pool must volunteer their professional services to serve the public interest at least 5 hours a month, work with us to help understand culturally and linguistically appropriate health services, and not have a "non-compete" close in their employment contract. We prefer to grant waivers to physicians how have done their residency in Rhode Island and those who practice primary care.)
Review and approve J-1 visa waiver applications to meet the state's changing healthcare needs.
