Mission

To support public health programs concerned with the early detection, surveillance and containment of infectious diseases in the state by providing essential laboratory services. Expedient laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases and timely detection of infectious disease outbreaks allows for preventative measures to be taken that reduce the risk of disease transmission.

What we do

  • Test specimens submitted from hospital and commercial laboratories, health centers and medical practitioners throughout the state.
  • Maintain the capacity to respond rapidly to emergent infectious diseases such as novel strains of influenza as well as to outbreaks of more common public health significant pathogens.
  • Follows CDC procedures to test human specimens for the presence of environmental toxic substances such as lead to obtain a more accurate assessment of population exposure to environmental chemicals.
