HealthFacts RI Program

Mission

To provide actionable data to support the study and comparison of healthcare data, to identify opportunities to improve healthcare quality and health outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs; and to help Rhode Islanders make informed decisions about their healthcare.

What we do

  • Spark innovation across the healthcare system to improve patient care and health outcomes, and lower costs.
  • Collect data to support the study and comparison of healthcare utilization, cost, and trends for people living in Rhode Island insured by major health insurance companies;
  • Require health insurers with more than 3000 members to submit enrollment and provider data, and medical and pharmacy claims for claims dating back to 2011.
  • Inform people about the costs for certain healthcare procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve healthcare quality in Rhode Island.
  • Ensure patient privacy by removing identifying information (names, addresses and other personal information) from patient data.
  • Protect the integrity and security of the database and all data transactions.
  • Oversee access to the data while rigorously protecting patient privacy.
  • Measure progress on important healthcare benchmarks.
  • Advance clinical improvement strategies and academic research.
