Produce Safety Program

Mission

To protect the health of consumers of fruits and vegetables that are typically consumed raw.

What we do

  • Provide education, outreach, and technical assistance to Rhode Island produce growers to increase knowledge of the requirements of the Produce Safety Rule.
  • Participate in regional and national produce safety partnerships to ensure uniform application of the Produce Safety Rule.
  • Partner with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management – Division of Agriculture (regulatory inspection and compliance) and University of Rhode Island – Food Safety Education Program (training, outreach, and technical assistance) to complete the statewide Produce Safety Program.
