Beach Water and Pool Testing

Mission

To assure the safety of recreational waters in the state by testing beach water and swimming, spa and therapy pools samples for bacterial contamination.

What we do

  • Analyze the concentration of enterococci bacteria as a measure of fecal contamination in beach water primarily when public and private beaches are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
  • Report beach water quality test results for public notification before next beach day.
  • Analyze and report the total bacteria count in pool samples collected from hotel, recreational, athletic, and therapy facilities.

Accomplishments

  • The Environmental Microbiology Lab conducted 2,552 beach and 104 pool tests in 2022.
