Falls are one of the leading causes of injury for all age groups, from infants to older adults. Falls at home and in the community are preventable.

Young Children

Falling is a natural part of childhood as children learn new skills, test their limits, and explore things around them. Most falls are harmless. However, some falls can result in serious injury, including open wounds, fractures, broken bones, or even brain injury. more

Older Adults

Most fall-related hospitalizations in Rhode Island occur among people age 65 and older. more

What You Should Do

  • If you are a parent or caregiver, protect your children from serious falls by making sure they're in a safe place. more
  • If you are an older adult, protect yourself from falls by exercising regularly, having your medicines reviewed, and having your vision checked. more

What We Do

  • Works to help Rhode Islanders prevent falls to ensure that people of all ages are safe, secure, and able to live to their full potential.
  • Monitor the prevalence of falls-related Traumatic Brain Injuries in Rhode Island.
