Information about Hospital Quality

Since 1999, the Healthcare Quality Reporting Program has published information about hospitals’ performance. If you know in advance that you or a family member will need hospital care, this information can help you compare hospitals and choose among them. You can also visit or call hospitals and ask friends and family for their thoughts and experiences.

Inspections

The Office of Facilities Regulation inspects healthcare hospitals to ensure that they adhere to state and federal standards. For example, The Joint Commission has performance standards that hospitals licensed must meet to be accredited. You can contact us to learn more about a facility’s inspection results.

Quality of Care

Our Healthcare Quality Reporting Program publishes reports comparing the quality of care provided by different hospitals. Use the reports to find out how often patients at different hospitals receive the right treatment, at the right time, and how often they get health conditions (like infections) that good care may prevent.

Patient Satisfaction

Learn what patients say about their experiences with Rhode Island hospitals by viewing the results of patient satisfaction surveys published by Medicare.

Medicare Quality

Medicare also publishes additional information about the quality of care provided by Medicare-certified hospitals.
