Tobacco Information for Insurance Providers

Effective March 2010, insurance carriers subject to the Office of the Health Commissioner's Regulation 14 are required to submit a completed Tobacco Cessation Treatment Coverage Annual Report form to the Department of Health. As required by this regulation, all Rhode Island health insurers must offer and provide coverage for tobacco cessation treatment services. Specifically, every individual or group health insurance contract, which provides medical coverage for physician services in a physician's office or provides major medical coverage in Rhode Island, must provide group counseling and include prescription coverage for nicotine replacement therapy and/or chantix.

This form should be postmarked by March 15 of each year and include all cessation treatment coverage provided for the immediate past calendar year (January - December).
